I have this really great camera system setup in my home. I absolutely love it, its capabilities, the technology, and its overall look. I’ve had it for awhile and I am so excited about it that I promote and share the products details with many of my friends and clients. I’m not a paid salesman or anything for the company, I just really love the cameras and the companion app. You’d think I get a commission, the way I’ve gotten these things sold over the years. I’ve personally ordered multiple sets for family and friends, I’ve installed them for quite a few people as well.
A few weeks ago I installed a set in the new home of a very good friend that had just purchased a set, on my recommendation. He called and asked if I’d come and setup the cameras, install them, troubleshoot and give him a tutorials so that he’d get best acquainted with the features. He’d been hearing about the cameras for a few years now- from me- and was ready to have his.
So I went over and began installing them. One of the best cameras that they have is this oscillating dome camera that has a motion-detection feature unlike many I have ever seen. This particular camera is so freaking awesome. The app has some really cool features that are unlocked with this particular camera. It’s a really cool camera. I have multiple in my home. I’m always excited to detail the specs and power of this device.
I mount the camera, run the wire, plug the control box into the outlet, and I open the app.
Nothing.
I refresh my screen. I check the Wi-Fi status. I ensure all of the chords are where they are supposed to be.
Nothing.
I almost uninstall everything, backtracking my steps in order to figure what was wrong. I spent almost 30 minutes trying to reconfigure, reconnect, and reset this camera. And if you’ve ever heard me talk about these cameras, you can imagine my disappointment and disgust at one not working. Because I’m proud of these things, like I created them. Or like I get money from people buying one. And I don’t.
Still trying to get this thing to work.
Nothing.
About 15 more minutes and now I’m frustrated. I start fiddling through my toolbox. There’s nothing on there to fix a camera, but it’s my toolbox. And I’m frustrated. A little embarrassed. It doesn’t make sense.
Then I grab my outlet tester.
I turn it on and plug it into the outlet.
Nothing.
The freaking outlet didn’t work!
The point of this story:
You’re fine.
You’re just plugged into the wrong place. The wrong power source. The wrong people.
Move around.
